We Believe in YOU!
Hi, my name is Karen van der Merwe (@kcvdm_art). It is a surreal honor to be featured on Inktober. I am just a wife and mom who loves to draw, not a professional artist. I studied Fine Arts a lifetime ago and worked as a Gold Smith until my children were born. I have done many creative things over the years but I never drew until 6 years ago when my daughters gave me a sketchbook and I discovered a ‘happy place’ I never realized I missed.
Inktober means a lot to me as the prompts are an incredible starting place for ideas to grow. I have completed Inktober for the past 5 years. I literally use a single pencil to sketch and one Bic ink pen to complete my drawings in a small sketchbook. Drawing is my way of expressing thoughts, emotions, and ideas that are important to me.
I include a scripture reference in my drawings because I am a Christian and I would love to inspire others through my drawings. I have sold a few copies of my drawings, mostly to family and friends.
