How About A Little Character?
Inktober has a new hellish prompt for you!
My name is Bas Goverde, also known as Mr. Brabbel (@mr.brabbel), and I'm thrilled to introduce myself as this week's featured Inktober artist! I live in the Netherlands with my wonderful wife and kids, and I'm a full-time graphic designer.
Drawing is my way to relax and bring my creative bursts to life. While I devote a lot of time to art, I also enjoy other hobbies and have found a great balance. I love randomness, and my best ideas often come to me in the dead of night! Though drawing is a hobby for me, it sometimes gets a bit out of hand. I usually draw in the evenings and on weekends.
Not every piece I create is a masterpiece, and I'm proud of that! Every "trash" drawing is a step forward. I've even gone through a phase where I used pareidolia—a brain-busting concept where you see meaningful patterns in random data, like faces on the moon—to create art. It was not only fun but also fantastic practice.
When I hit an art block, I see it as a detour that eventually leads to funny and inspiring outcomes. I constantly push myself to improve, taking a critical look at each piece I create.
One of my favorite exercises is to fill a page with random icons and then create a drawing using at least one item from each row on the next page. I also love to pick a theme and fill a page with everything that sparks my imagination or crosses my path during the day. I prefer to go wild, often combining objects with monsters, animals, or fruit.
This year, I participated in and completed Inktober for the first time! It was an incredibly fun challenge, and I can't wait to join again next year.
