Hey, it's Chewie (@chewie_co). At 60 years young, I'm a self-taught artist here to share my Inktober Takeover. Currently calling Milan, Italy home, and reflecting on my incredible journey. Believe it or not, I only picked up drawing five years ago!
As a child, I harbored dreams of becoming an artist, but life took me on a different path. I ventured into corporate roles, leaving my passion for art behind. Then, at 55, life threw me a curveball—I lost my job. Reentering the workforce at this stage was daunting, to say the least. Amid my uncertainty, my daughter reignited a spark within me. She reminded me of my childhood aspirations, urging me to reignite my artistic flame. And so, armed with determination and an ink pen, I embarked on a journey back to my artistic roots. Engraving styles and images of ancient ships danced in my mind as I began to sketch daily.
Despite never undergoing formal training, I've continued honing my craft. Regular practice, voracious reading, and drawing inspiration from fellow artists have become my guiding lights. Three years ago, I took a leap of faith and joined Instagram. Participating in three Inktober challenges not only allowed me to showcase my work but also introduced me to a vibrant community of creators. Their unwavering support and boundless creativity spurred me to share more of my story online.
In a delightful turn of events, my account gained traction and went viral. This newfound visibility not only granted me a sense of belonging but also opened doors to exciting projects. Currently, I'm immersed in illustrating adventure and sci-fi books—fulfilling a lifelong dream. Feel free to let me know if there are specific areas you'd like further refinement on! Check out more of my work on the Inktober account today!

Hi Chewie, My name is John, and though I started later than you, I’m catching up. I picked up pen and started about age 65. This is great retirement stuff. So… I’m looking for the 52 - 2024 prompt list. I see that you have it shown here but it is behind a week, stopping at 16 weeks. Do you have the week 17? Thanks.
