Ground Control To Major Tom
This is our friend Rachel Steele and we are so excited for her to be this week’s featured artist! She’s an England-based Graphic Designer and Illustrator who has been creating things from a young age. She loves to paint, collage, print, and do anything crafty that she can get her hands on really. But particularly, she loves to draw.
Rachel discovered Inktober a few years ago and loved how the prompts forced her out of her comfort zone, coming up with ideas that she wouldn't ordinarily pursue. Rachel spent 1 year at University studying Art at the foundational level and another 3 years on her degree in Graphic Design.
She has been fortunate in that her family is also artistic and has always nurtured her creativity. Specifically, her Grandfather who taught her about watercolor when she was small and who also happens to be her biggest fan. Her Mum is a great influence as well, having never stopped encouraging and inspiring her.
They would spend countless days during the school summer holidays with each other in museums and galleries so that Rachel could be inspired and sketch. We hope that in today’s takeover Rachel can pay it forward and inspire others, as they’ve inspired her! Check out more of my work on the Inktober account today by clicking HERE!

Inktober founder, Jake Parker, recently posted a video the suggested it's time to shift our perspective from being mere "content creators" to becoming genuine "connection creators."
But how do we make this shift? How do we forge meaningful connections with our audience in an increasingly digital landscape? The answer lies in stepping off the content treadmill and making something tangible, something real - physical creations that resonate on a deeper level.
Whether it's books, prints, pins, or original artwork, tangible creations offer a visceral connection that transcends the digital realm. They evoke emotions, spark conversations, and foster a sense of intimacy between creator and audience.
That's why we are excited to share with you a free resource that can help kickstart your journey toward making tangible connections: the Self-Publishing Pro 6-video mini-course. Developed by Jake Parker and his SVSlearn teaching partners, Will Terry and Lee White, this mini-course provides actionable insights and practical strategies tailored to your needs as a creator.
Sign up at selfpublishingpro.com to gain access to exclusive private videos that:
demystify the path of self-publishing
share tips on engaging your audience outside of social media
offer a glimpse into their own successful projects.
If you find value in the mini-course, you'll also have the opportunity to enroll in our comprehensive 9-week program to unlock your full potential as a creator.
So, what are you waiting for? It's time to break free from the confines of the algorithm and start making real connections. Join us on this journey of creativity, authenticity, and genuine human connection.
Turn off the distractions, tune into your creative instincts, and make something extraordinary.
Thanks,
The Inktober Team
