Hi! I'm Bethany, also known as Beef (@rarexbeef) – yes, people really do call me Beef, even though my parents gave me the perfectly normal name, Bethany.
I grew up in Montreal, and like many creatives, my path to becoming a professional artist was filled with more detours than I had anticipated. Tattoo apprenticeships are notoriously hard to come by, and after a decade of searching, sketching, and waiting, I was close to giving up and settling for a "regular" job.
But three years ago, fate finally smiled on me, and now I'm living my dream as a tattoo artist, working in both Montreal and Ottawa.
My art is inspired by the weird, spooky, and slimy – the mysterious shapes lurking in the shadows, and creatures that prefer to stay hidden. They're often misunderstood, but that's what makes them fascinating to me.
The Inktober challenge has been a constant source of motivation, pushing me to keep creating year after year. It's an incredible feeling to now tattoo some of the designs that Inktober inspired. I'm truly honored to be part of the Inktober takeover, excited to share my work, and grateful to continue fueling creativity!
